Phyllis Huster is a resident of Snoqualmie, Washington, and has a proven track record of problem solving as a 20 year Telecommunications Executive & Microsoft contractor. Her focus is on issues that impact all Washingtonians – economic growth, transportation choices, better & funded education, affordable/quality healthcare, election integrity, a sustainable environment and telecommunications reform. She does not think corporations deserve 'personhood status' and advocates accountability to the citizens on all levels of state budget and spending. She also believes the 5th district is shorted millions on state funding because of rapid growth in her district. She believes that paying folks a living wage does not hurt the small businesses but in fact enriches local communities, and creates a community based "buy local' loyalty to the district, the state and the Pac Northwest region, as the rest of the economy races to recession.
Phyllis came from rural roots, with both parents growing up in rural areas and they taught her the value of hard work, saving money, and protecting our land. She believes she can manage the desires of real estate developers, growth management legislation that protects our sacred spaces and the needs of landowner's who deserve full rights to use or sell their land. This balance is her personal strength, finding solutions that meet the needs of all parties.
With these priorities in mind, Phyllis will focus her legislative work on the belief that governing is a privilege and that elected officials should be responsive to the concerns of all people, and not just those with the loudest voices and the biggest lobbyist checks. Far too often incumbents get so mired in the politics of Olympia that they forget to represent their district.
She is a 20-year telecommunications veteran, and has managed $500M+ programs for major corporations as AT&T, T-Mobile USA, and Microsoft. At Microsoft, Phyllis identified ways to deploy environmentally friendly technology programs. Phyllis sat on the board of her first Fortune 500 company at the age of 33, and has been a trusted executive advisor to some of the country's largest telecom carriers. She has also worked in small business, having managed two successful startups and is a published author.
These experiences reinforced her belief that to govern well, government must manage the budget efficiently to reduce the burden on taxpayers and small business. Phyllis knows that to be strong, our state's economy must improve access to good jobs, education, healthcare, and one more essential element that is too often overlooked – affordable transportation to and from work, and school.
Phyllis Huster has put her convictions into action in Washington State and across the country. She is an active member of the King County Democratic Party, and the 5th District Democrats.
Phyllis has been active in protecting voter rights, and served as a national expert on election reform advising a lawsuit that successfully proved that Diebold Electronic voting machines are unreliable because they cannot be audited for accuracy. She has facilitated corporate donations of fans to seniors without air conditioning; advocated for the protection of intellectual property rights; and delivered meals regularly to patients with diabetes and other illnesses.
